Supporting South East Cricket through Umpiring and Scoring
Welcome from Lorraine Elgar, South East Regional Councillor
We have striven to promote and improve the quality of cricket umpiring and scoring in the South East. We have supported our local clubs through the provision of officials for their recreational and professional cricket matches, and the training such officials to a high level and offered resources and assistance to anyone interested in our disciplines. However, things are changing within British umpiring and scoring communities nationwide ... please see the News items below.
Nonetheless, you will still find information on all our activities on the various pages of this website, from the training offered by district associations, to national and regional social events.
We continue to hope that you find this website an accessible, interesting and useful resource.

ACU&S SGM held at Lord's, 15th March 2008
At the Special General Meeting held at Lord's on Saturday 15th March, the resolution dealing with the disposal of ACU&S assets and put by the Chairman, was spoken to and voted upon. Attendance was very low, but emotions were high. A few people spoke about the ‘pitiful ending of the ACU&S’ and ‘funeral of the ACU&S’. Others spoke about a new beginning and going forward positively. A number were disappointed at the lack of celebration of the achievements of the ACU&S.
A number of people spoke against the resolution in parts (and therefore as a whole, as amendments could not be proposed at the meeting). The resolution was carried. [78 votes for, 11 against, 3 abstentions].
This means that:
A balance sheet was made available at the SGM – for details contact John Rushton, treasurer or me for a copy. With regards to laptops and projectors, invoices would be sent out to people in possession of laptops and projectors for £150 for a set. After the vote Sheila Hill gave thanks to a number of officers of the Association for their dedication. Sheila, herself, was presented with a plaque by Thames Region for all that she had done.
At the end of the meeting there was a brief synopsis of the meeting of the ECBACO interim board held last week. It was suggested that ACU&S training and exams may continue next Autumn if ECBACO material was not ready. The interim Board is working very hard to establish firm footings to move forward. Geoff Lowden would also make strong case for our honorary members to be recognised.

ACU&S is dissolving at this time, although ACU&S training across the South-East region is continuing and examinations will still be offered for ACU&S qualifications until the conclusion of this training season (end of April 2008). ECB ACO has agreed to recognise all ACU&S qualifications attained and reported to them by 30th April 2008. A statement has been issued by ACU&S General Secretary Steven Wood detailing the closing moves of ACU&S.
Ballot Result Declared - 17th December 2007
IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: ACU&S and ECB OA to merge
3395 valid votes were cast in the recent ACU&S national postal ballot regarding a proposed merger between the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers and the ECB Officials Association. 2541 of these said 'yes' to the merger, 74.8% of votes cast. 19 papers were spoiled.
